For some reason, every time I am forced to trust God with a situation, I struggle. (Yes, forced. Sadly I still try to be self-sufficient). I find it hard to trust the God of the universe with my problems because I forget the vastness of His love for me. But right now, yet again, I am in the situation of needing to trust God. You see, I have prayed about going to Thailand since last October or even before then. Still, while I have seen God clearly leading, I keep wondering if I can trust Him to send me. I have this sort of lurking fear that at the last minute He will pull the chair out while I try to sit down and leave me sprawled on the floor looking ridiculous. But that's not how God works. No, God is faithful! In just the past 2 weeks, God has provided me with many prayer warriors and more than 1/2 of the support I will need to go to Thailand. I have been hugely blessed by family and friends who have committed to pray for me and who have been led to give financially. Praise the Lord! So I now have the opportunity to continue sitting in His presence, waiting for Him to provide the rest.
Another lesson I have been learning is about Thailand and its language. I had no idea until a few weeks ago that Thailand is tropical...or that I would be there during the rainy season (think hot and humid). This gave me a reason for a few chuckles...God certainly knew what He was doing when He placed me at Whirlpool last summer! He was preparing me for adventures that He knew about and I couldn't see. :) My language learning includes hello (so waat di kha), how are you (sa baai dii maai), yes (chai), and no (mai chai). I will learn more before June, and I will have the opportunity to study the intricate language further while in Thailand...did you know it has 5 tones?!?
While in Thailand, I will officially be staying with the Nesbitts, Offutts, and Weimers. This is so amazing to me because I will get three accurate and different tastes of life in Thailand! I have met the Nesbitts and Weimers through skype, I talk with the Nesbitts since they are the team leaders as I work out the details of the trip, and I follow the Weimers through their blog http://weimers4thailand.blogspot.com/. (There are pictures of the Weimers and the other families on the blog). I am so excited to meet these families in only 7 weeks!
Please pray with me as I countdown the weeks until my first international travel...
- God will supply the remainder of the support I need to raise...and 80% of it by the end of April so that my plane ticket can be purchased
- God will prepare my heart and I will make time for Him as I face the final 4 weeks of this semester
- And praise God for His goodness and trustworthiness!
